3L did some more work on their Building with a Variety of Materials Science Unit. Check out the boxes they made!
We have learned a lot in science about the strength of shapes, and now we are putting our knowledge to use. This week, we have worked on making trusses with popsicle sticks.
We made 5 different designs, and tested all 5 of them to see which could hold the most weight. To our surprise, all of the weights we had couldn't even break the popsicle stick trusses!! We are great engineers! We are extremely fortunate to have technology available for us to use at St. Pats! Every Tuesday, we have the opportunity to use iPads for a variety of things. Sometimes we are doing research, sometimes we are reading, sometimes we are working on math skills. This week, we worked on our RAZ kids, and had time to read independently. Look at how focused and excited about reading the students in grade 3L are!! This week we have begun a new read aloud book. It is a Geronimo Stilton book called "Shipwreck on the Pirate Islands". As we read the book, we will be thinking about our own stories to compliment Geronimo Stilton's story. We have begun chapter one of our writing, and are working on how our stories character got onto the island. We can't wait to share our stories! In art, we made maps of our islands and are making them look antique by staining them with teabags! You'll be amazed when you see the finished product!
